I was prescribed speech therapy a few years ago for short-term memory problems. I went one time and thought the evaluation given was extremely elementary and ridiculous. My insurance paid $350 for one hour of my answering stupid questions and performing exercises that were obviously too easy or unrelated to my issue. In my recent study of the benefits of speech therapy I have decided the patient needs to research the speech therapist to assure other clients have been satisfied with the services prior to the visit.

That said, speech therapists can help patients with multiple sclerosis whom are dealing with swallowing and/or speech issues. Weak facial muscles or lesions can affect a person’s ability to speak and swallow. “Oral exercises, voice training, special communication devices, diet modifications, and altered positions while eating” are a few of the methods used in speech therapy.
