It is amazing to me that as I go through times in my life when I actually must perform to achieve a task, my body says “okay”. Then when I have completed the endurance test my body immediately crashes for a time period. Case in point, I recently traveled for medical appointments and stayed with my mother in Tucson, AZ. She had a list of things that required attention months ago which took two weeks to accomplish. Upon my return home, I slept for an entire day and am still recovering. Other examples from over the years would include: 1) being at my mother and grandmother’s hospital bedsides for two weeks following a severe car accident; 2) sorting and packing up my grandmother’s home after its sale – 10 days of hard labor; 3) taking care of stepfather’s funeral and estate when he passed away – 6 weeks; 4) negotiating a teacher contract with extremely high tension – 3 months. It is almost as if I have super powers for a short time. Boy, I sure do appreciate that aspect of my abilities living with multiple sclerosis.
