Seventy-eight percent of MS patients are inactive, significantly higher than the national average of 38%. Knowing the facts can help me to strategize my management.
– Water is critical for life and weight loss. Drink 8 glasses per day and eat vegetables and fruits for more hydration.
– Protein gives long-lasting energy compared to carbohydrates and uses more calories to digest.
– Muscle takes three times the calories to maintain each day than fat. Using muscle burns more calories.
– Resistance training (non-aerobic) creates muscle while raising your heart rate in physical activity exercises (aerobic) boosts your resting metabolic rate.
– Energy drinks with caffeine do cause you to burn more calories, the downside is the unwanted health issues making them not an option for me. I have enough problems.
– Snacks are important. Eating more often and less at each meal helped me to maintain and loss weight.
– Building muscle and staying active are critical components of keeping my body healthy.
– Interesting note: Men burn more calories even sleeping.
