The day before Christmas there was a knock at my door. Standing there with her daughter was a woman holding a present. “Merry Christmas. I brought you a gift.” Trying to conceal my reaction I invited them in. I had not a clue who the woman was nor how I happened to know her. I was at a loss of words and stumbled through talking about the cookies I was baking and the latest quilt I had made. Typically I’m honest immediately when I don’t know someone and explain my memory issues with MS. This time, she had a present in hand. Who brings someone a present if they don’t know them? So I faked it. When the door closed I confessed to my son and he told me how I knew her. Turns out I have forgotten her several times. Maybe she knew by my blank face as she handed me the gift since she has been through this before with me. What can I say? I look fine on the outside but have a few marbles lose inside.
